Chairman P&D Board, Barrister Nabeel Ahmad Awan, chaired a meeting to review the progress of the Citrus Revival Project. This transformative initiative aims to rejuvenate citrus farming across 9,000 acres of sick citrus orchards in Punjab, with a strong focus on improving quality, boosting farmer incomes, and enhancing export potential. During the meeting, the Chair discussed the core objectives of the project, including direct financial support to farmers, the expansion of container-grown nurseries, and the import of improved citrus varieties from abroad. It was also noted that a comprehensive disease control strategy is being developed to protect citrus crops from common and emerging threats. The project also envisions the induction of interns and technical experts to strengthen implementation capacity and promote innovation in the sector. This multi-faceted approach aims to ensure long-term sustainability and growth of the citrus industry. The Chair directed that the approach should be aggressive, innovative, and big, emphasizing bold changes to maximize impact. The meeting was attended by Member National Assembly Mr. Mohsin Nawaz Ranjha, along with officers including Mr. Omar Masud (Secretary Industry/CEO Urban Unit), Mr. Aslam Javed (Member Agriculture), Mr. Mahmood ul Hassan (Senior Chief RP), Mr. Waqas Rashid (Additional Secretary Agriculture), Mr. Waqas (Chief Agriculture), representatives of the CM Task Force, and other concerned stakeholders.
