Consultative Session on Understanding Project Cycle for Moving into Carbon Markets at P&D Complex, Lahore
The Project Coordination Unit (PCU) of the Punjab Green Development Program (PGDP) arranged a consultative session with the theme "Understanding Project Cycle for moving into Carbon Markets” in collaboration with REMIT (Revenue Mobilisation, Investment and Trade), at AKS Auditorium,P&D Board.
Chairman P&D Board Mr Iftikhar Ali Sahoo presided over the session. The Chairman P&D Board emphasized the significance of carbon trading, particularly for key areas such as urban development, forestry, environment, transport, and energy. He also stressed the need to create a road map in order to meet the goals.
FCDO funded REMIT Project Head, Mr. Hamed Yaqoob Sheikh, talked about REMIT objectives by strengthening macroeconomic stability and improving conditions for high and sustained inclusive growth. CEO National Disaster Risk Management Fund (NDRMF) Mr. Bilal Anwar, provided an enlightening discourse on the positive outcomes of carbon marketing.
The session was moderated by Ms. Ahad Yousaf Khan, DCP PCU PGDP. In the session, leading experts shared their knowledge and experience from the Delta Blue Carbon Project (DBCP) Sindh, which achieved carbon credits by restoring over 350,000 hectares of degraded mangroves in Sindh and reducing 142 million tonnes of CO2 emissions.
The purpose of the session was to highlight and discuss various topics related to climate change in Pakistan, including the current state of the sector, awareness of carbon markets, opportunities in the sector, obstacles and challenges, international collaboration and partnerships, and future action plans.
Representatives from P&D, CM Office, NDRMF, REMIT, PCU PGDP, Energy, EPD, RUDA, SDPI, SPAARC, Transport, Forest (Punjab & Sindh), and others attended the session. 24.11.2023
